The Journey to Justice

Raised in Richmond, Virginia—the former Capital of the Confederacy—Kevin's early experiences with systemic racism and hero-worship of Confederate ideals shaped his consciousness and fueled his lifelong commitment to justice. These formative experiences led him to reject traditional schooling patterns and become a passionate advocate for social justice, ultimately inspiring his return to graduate education with a focus on understanding root causes and transformational solutions for achievement gaps and systemic change.

Kevin's personal journey of healing and awakening includes co-founding Men of the Middle Passage, a Black men's organization dedicated to healing the "soul wound" of men of African ancestry. This work reflects his deep understanding that individual healing and collective liberation are inseparable.

Education and Expertise

Kevin holds dual Master's degrees that uniquely position him at the intersection of education and psychology:

  • Master's in Education from Antioch University, with a focus on culture's impact on educator-student relationships, the achievement gap, and educational leadership

  • Master's in Psychology, specializing in Depth Psychology—exploring the unconscious roots of behavior, trauma, historical trauma, bias, and cultural complexes

This multidisciplinary foundation allows Kevin to address not just the symptoms of inequity, but the deep psychological and cultural roots that perpetuate systemic barriers.

It is important to note that for people who experience oppression, racism, scarcity, and poverty we can’t expect them to shift their mindset while the systems (and individuals) that oppress them go unchecked.

It is important to note that for people who experience oppression, racism, scarcity, and poverty we can’t expect them to shift their mindset while the systems (and individuals) that oppress them go unchecked.

The Philosophy of "AND"

Central to Kevin's approach is his belief that "AND" is more appropriate than "OR." This perspective allows him to maintain focused commitment to equity and social justice while ensuring all voices remain engaged in the transformation process. This inclusive approach strengthens his ability to help individuals and organizations become the best citizens and stewards we can be—together.

The Vision Forward

Kevin's work is rooted in the understanding that true transformation requires more than policy changes or awareness training—it demands a fundamental shift in how we see ourselves, each other, and our shared responsibility for creating a world where all can thrive. Through his consulting, coaching, and speaking, Kevin continues to invite people into the sacred work of becoming fully human, together.
